The President's Special Representative Discussed Kyrgyzstan's Priorities with Partners Within the Framework of the Five-Year Action Plan for the Development of Mountain Regions

The Special Representative of the President of Kyrgyzstan on Mountain Agenda Issues, Dinara Kemelova, met with representatives of the UN and the Secretariat of the Mountain Partnership, including the UN Resident Coordinator Antje Grawe and the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Kyrgyzstan, Kim Kwang-dae. 

According to the president's press service, Kemelova presented the country's key priorities in the context of the Decade of Action for Mountain Development planned for 2023-2027. During the discussion, she emphasized the main issues faced by residents of mountainous areas, such as climate change, natural disasters, and challenging geographical conditions. 

The discussion also addressed key tasks for the Decade, including the updated Roadmap for 2023-2027, which includes measures to improve living conditions in mountain regions: access to medical services, clean water, sanitation, energy resources, digital services, and other social and economic aspects. 

The Special Representative also spoke about conducting a comprehensive analysis of the geographical, demographic, social, economic, and environmental characteristics of the mountainous areas of Kyrgyzstan. Additionally, she presented an initiative to establish the Bishkek Global Center for Mountain Region Sustainability, which will serve as an international platform for scientific and technical cooperation and attracting climate financing, urging partners to actively participate in this process. 

As part of the preparations for 2026, it was proposed to organize thematic round tables and forums in the regions and remote mountainous areas of Kyrgyzstan aimed at enhancing the capacity of local authorities for sustainable development and the protection of mountain ecosystems. 

During the meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Kim Kwang-dae, opportunities for bilateral cooperation in the fields of renewable energy, organic agriculture, tourism, and the modernization of historical and cultural sites in mountainous regions were discussed, as well as the exchange of experiences with the Republic of Korea on the development of mountain territories.
