Today in Bishkek, a meeting took place between the Speaker of the Parliament, Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, and the UN Resident Coordinator in Kyrgyzstan, Antje Grave.

The discussion focused on issues of expanding cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the UN, as well as upcoming joint projects.

The Speaker of the Parliament also mentioned progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

“In recent years, there has been growth in gross domestic product, which indicates high performance of our economy. We will continue to take measures for further development until 2030. The President sets serious tasks for us, and the parliament is actively working in this direction,” he added.

Antje Grave, in turn, congratulated Turgunbek uulu on his re-election as Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh and noted the UN's interest in ongoing cooperation with the Kyrgyz Parliament. She also highlighted the positive assessment of Kyrgyzstan's efforts in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and the importance of developing partnerships.

During the meeting, the activities of the Council on Women’s Rights, Children, and Gender Equality under the Jogorku Kenesh were also mentioned. Grave noted its significance and expressed readiness to support the council's active participation in upcoming international events.

Additionally, the topic of gender equality was discussed.

The Speaker of the Parliament stated that Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to this issue. “Women hold an important place in our traditions and values. Significant measures are currently being taken to enhance their role in the political life of the country. In the VIII convocation of the parliament, a 30% quota for women has been established, making every third deputy a woman. This is not even seen in the most progressive countries,” he concluded.
