The formation of a healthy society became the key topic of the meeting between the Ministry of Health and the UN.

Today, a meeting took place in Bishkek between the Minister of Health, Kanibek Dosmambetov, and the UN Resident Coordinator in Kyrgyzstan, Antje Grave.

At the event, Minister Dosmambetov expressed gratitude to the United Nations for its ongoing support of health sector reforms. He emphasized the significant contribution of UN agencies to the creation and implementation of the National Action Plan for ensuring medical and sanitary safety, as well as to the development of legislation in the field of public health and programs aimed at ensuring equal access to medical services and disease prevention.

The Minister also shared the key priorities of the new team at the Ministry of Health, focusing on preventive measures and the transition from treating diseases to creating a healthy society.

Among the main areas he highlighted were the prevention of non-communicable diseases, the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, improving immunization, maternal and child health protection, reducing maternal mortality, as well as reforms in epidemiological surveillance and the healthcare system as a whole.

The importance of further integrating digital technologies into healthcare was also emphasized, including electronic medical records, telemedicine, and the establishment of situational centers for rapid response.

Kanibek Dosmambetov expressed interest in support from the UN system regarding equipping healthcare institutions with modern equipment, expanding internship programs for healthcare workers abroad, and sharing best international practices.

Antje Grave, in turn, confirmed the UN system's readiness to continue deepening cooperation with the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic. She noted that Kyrgyzstan is participating in a global digital transformation program supported by UN agencies and expressed readiness to provide further assistance in the areas of digitalization, immunization, maternal and child health protection, reproductive health, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The parties also discussed future strategic planning processes of the UN system for 2026–2027 and the preparation of a new five-year framework cooperation document for 2028–2032, emphasizing the need for active participation of the Ministry of Health in shaping the priorities of joint work.

As a result of the meeting, both parties confirmed their interest in strengthening the partnership and continuing joint efforts to achieve sustainable development of the healthcare system in the Kyrgyz Republic.
