On the territory of the State Natural Park "Khan-Teniri," there is an increase in the population of wild animals, including the red-listed brown bear. In this nature reserve, photos of bears captured by camera traps in 2025 have been published.

According to information provided by the park, there are currently up to 20 individuals of brown bears, also known as Tien Shan brown bears, residing in "Khan-Teniri."

The Tien Shan brown bear (Ursus arctos) is a rare subspecies of brown bears and is listed in the Red Books of several Central Asian countries, including Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Park representatives noted that in the recent past, the brown bear inhabited almost the entire territory of Kyrgyzstan. Today, its range has significantly decreased, and bears are only found in limited numbers in high-altitude areas. The most suitable habitats for these animals are remote high-altitude regions with rich vegetation and thickets of shrubs, interspersed with water bodies and swamps.

In July 2024, Kyrgyzstan increased fines for illegal hunting of animals listed in the Red Book. Now, the fine for shooting a brown bear is set at 1.5 million soms, which is significantly higher than the previous fine of 1 million soms.

The State Natural Park "Khan-Teniri" is located in the eastern part of the Issyk-Kul region, at the junction of the Kungoy and Teskey Ala-Too ranges, in the basin of the Sary-Jaz River. Here are majestic peaks such as Peak Pobeda (7439 m) and Khan-Teniri (6995 m).

The park is divided into four sections: Aydyr-Tor, Sary-Jaz, Enilchek, and Kayindy. It also includes various functional zones: a protected zone, an ecological stabilization zone, a tourist-recreational zone, and a zone of limited economic activity.
