At the meeting of the permanent commission of the Bishkek City Council on economics, budget, finance, and investments, held on February 9, the head of the Education Department of the Bishkek City Hall, Rakhат Musaева, shared the problems related to providing schools with qualified teachers.

She pointed out that the opening of schools with Russian as the language of instruction in new residential areas often leads to low-quality education. In particular, Musaева noted that out of more than 400 teacher vacancies in Bishkek, the majority are in schools where instruction is conducted in Russian.

Rakhат Musaева explained that in such educational institutions, often only one or two classes are created, and as a result, after completing primary school in the fifth grade, children face a shortage of subject specialists.

In light of the above, the Education Department proposed an initiative to the Ministry of Education to not separate classes into Russian-speaking and Kyrgyz-speaking, but to implement the teaching of certain subjects in both languages. Ideally, some subjects are planned to be taught in Kyrgyz, while others in Russian, with the possibility of adding English in the future.

“This will be more effective,” emphasized R.Musaева.
