At the parliamentary meeting held on February 25, Deputy Dastan Bekeshev proposed changing the approach to school uniforms in Kyrgyzstan.

In his opinion, more attention is paid to appearance than to the internal content of education.

“A school uniform can look attractive, but often it turns out to be uncomfortable for children. We make decisions without considering the opinions of the students themselves. In other countries, students are not required to wear such strict outfits — suits and trousers. If someone does not meet these requirements, they can be judged,” noted the deputy.

Bekeshev emphasized that in some regions, the issue of uniforms is particularly acute.

“We should not completely abandon school uniforms, as they have their significance in maintaining discipline. However, let’s soften the requirements. Why can’t boys and girls come in more comfortable clothing? For example, in t-shirts and jeans. Why must girls wear skirts? This is a legacy of the Soviet era,” he added.

The deputy advocated for the introduction of a "smart casual" style that combines comfort and elegance.

He suggested that the Cabinet of Ministers and the Ministry of Education grant schools the right to establish their own rules regarding school uniforms.

Additionally, Bekeshev pointed out the need to reconsider the clothing requirements for deputies, noting that not all parliamentarians adhere to a strict dress code. “Why should security assess how visitors are dressed? These restrictions should be lifted,” he concluded.
