In the Ak-Tal district of the Naryn region, school directors were provided with clarifications regarding the increase in teachers' salaries starting in April, reported a Turmush correspondent.

Some teachers of humanitarian disciplines had previously expressed dissatisfaction regarding their salaries being lower than those of their colleagues teaching natural science subjects (STEM). This led to discussions about the differences in coefficients, which they believe create unequal conditions despite the same requirements for teachers and the volume of work performed.

“We, the teachers of humanitarian subjects, insist on the necessity of equalizing the coefficients for all disciplines. Low coefficients for humanitarian subjects lead to wage inequality, while STEM disciplines have higher coefficients,” the teachers noted.

The reduction of hours for certain subjects has also affected salaries. As part of the new 12-year educational program, the number of Kyrgyz language lessons has been reduced, and a chemistry course for 7th grades has been introduced instead. Kyrgyz language teachers proposed to keep the native language lessons and simply add chemistry as a separate subject.

According to data from the district education department, starting in April, teachers of general education schools and staff of preschool institutions will receive salaries calculated based on the following coefficients:

For teachers of grades 1–4:

General secondary education: 2.45;

Secondary vocational education: 3.50;

Higher education (bachelor's): 3.95;

Higher education (master's): 4.35.

For teachers of grades 5–11 (humanitarian disciplines):

Secondary education: 2.10;

Secondary vocational education: 2.90;

Higher education (bachelor's): 3.30;

Higher education (master's): 3.65;

For teachers of grades 5–11 (STEM subjects):

Secondary education: 2.45;

Secondary vocational education: 3.50;

Higher education (bachelor's): 3.95;

Higher education (master's): 4.35;

It is important to note that when calculating salaries, work experience, salary rates, the number of teaching hours, and coefficients for high-altitude areas are taken into account.

Jaidarbek Sydykov, head of the district education department, emphasized that the differences pertain solely to the coefficients.

“We do not categorize teachers or subjects into any 'ranks.' Everyone has equal rights. The issue lies in the previously established coefficients. For example, the coefficient for STEM disciplines is 2.45, while for humanitarian subjects it is 2.10. These coefficients were determined in conditions of a shortage of teachers in the exact sciences and have been in effect since then,” he explained.

According to the plan, starting in April, all teachers and staff of preschool institutions will receive a 100% salary increase. No one will be left without a raise. All nuances were discussed at the meeting with school directors. Additionally, each teacher will receive a presidential compensation of 15,000 soms depending on their rate. “I hope this will lead to a significant increase in salaries,” added J. Sydykov.
