The military court in Baku has sentenced several leaders of the Karabakh Armenians to life imprisonment. These politicians were detained in 2023 following a military campaign during which Azerbaijan established control over the disputed territory, as reported by RBC.

Among the convicted is the former president of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) Araik Harutyunyan, who held this position from 2020 until August 2023.

The charges against him include war crimes such as aggressive war, genocide, terrorism, and violent seizure of power.

The court also imposed similar sentences on other participants in the case, including former Defense Minister Levon Mnatsakanyan, former parliamentary speaker David Ishkhanyan, former deputy commander of NKR forces David Manukyan, and former Foreign Minister David Babayan.

All the convicted were detained at the end of 2023, and former state minister of the NKR Ruben Vardanyan also faces life imprisonment. None of the defendants admitted their guilt.
