In Moscow, the Second Western District Military Court has sentenced Uzbek citizen Akhmadjon Kurbanov to life imprisonment for the murder of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, who was the head of the troops for radiation, chemical, and biological protection. This crime occurred in December 2024. According to RBC, Kurbanov admitted his guilt in the terrorist act that resulted in the death of the high-ranking Russian officer.

Additionally, the court imposed a fine of 1 million rubles (approximately $13,000) on him. Three other participants in this case were also convicted, receiving significant prison terms and smaller fines. Robert Safaryan, a citizen of Azerbaijan, who, according to the investigation, provided explosives to the perpetrator of the terrorist act, received 25 years in prison. Two natives of Ingushetia, Batuhan Tochiev and Ramazan Padiyev, who rented accommodation to Kurbanov, were sentenced to 22 and 18 years in a penal colony, respectively.

According to media reports, during the proceedings, Kurbanov actively cooperated with the investigation and admitted his guilt, while the other defendants insisted on their innocence. For example, Tochiev and Padiyev claimed they were simply renting out an apartment, while Safaryan stated he was unaware of the contents of the package handed over to Kurbanov.

At the end of December 2024, Kurbanov was charged under several articles of the Criminal Code of Russia, including part 3 of article 205 ("Commission of a terrorist act"), part 4 of article 222.1 ("Illegal trafficking in explosive devices"), and part 3 of article 223.1 ("Illegal manufacture of explosive devices").

Igor Kirillov and his assistant, Major Ilya Polikarpov, were killed on December 17, 2024, as a result of an explosion from a scooter left at the entrance of a building. On the same day, a suspect was detained in the Balashikha urban district — 29-year-old Akhmadjon Alijon ugli Kurbanov.

During interrogation, he spoke about recruitment by Ukrainian special services, which promised him a reward of $100,000 for carrying out the terrorist act and guaranteed relocation to the European Union for permanent residence.
