The Deputy Minister of Health reported that from 2022 to 2024, 431 children with Down syndrome, 1,866 children with cerebral palsy, and 271 children with autism have been registered.
Jylgyz Sadyrova noted that the actual figures differ significantly from the official statistics. The main request from parents is for the establishment of state rehabilitation centers, as existing institutions can only serve a small portion of those in need. The cost of staying in private rehabilitation centers reaches 3,000 soms per day.
She added: "Parents are asking for such services to be available at least in the regional centers. Many leave their jobs and move to Bishkek to support their children. The earlier rehabilitation begins, the higher the chances that the child will become a full-fledged member of society."
The deputy also pointed out that no child has received state assistance in addressing dental issues. Treating one tooth costs 50,000 soms, and children with epilepsy also remain without state support. In addition, Sadyrova emphasized the need to increase the amount of benefits and to train specialists to work with such children. "There is a shortage of defectologists, speech therapists, and psychologists. Working with children with mental disorders requires a special approach, but unfortunately, despite the presence of faculties, the specialty is not in demand. Society heavily stigmatizes these children, and parents hide them, especially in villages. This exacerbates their condition. Therefore, it is important to strengthen the information policy so that parents can accept their children," she noted.
The Deputy Minister of Health added that there are currently eight rehabilitation centers operating in the republic, and plans are underway to build new ones in Bishkek and Osh soon.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Finance, Zhibek Duyshieva, reported that benefits will not be increased this year; however, it may happen next year.
