Recent changes to the school holiday schedule in Kyrgyzstan have caused confusion among parents. In particular, one reader of 24.kg expressed her doubts about the rescheduling of the spring break to early March.

She noted that for many years, the third quarter ended in late March, and the holidays always began in the last week of March, ending on April 1.

“The third quarter, which started on January 12, now turns out to be short due to changes that are unclear. The structure of the academic year has always been clear, and I don’t understand why it was changed. There are many holidays planned in May, and the question arises: why?” the mother wondered.

Some social media users also raised the issue that now the fourth quarter, unlike the third, lasts much longer—2.5 months, taking into account the May holidays.

“Is this normal? After May 20, students will have exams and the National Testing, and they will be tired,” wrote one mother. “At the end of May, it gets hot, and it becomes unbearable in the classrooms,” added another.

Teachers on social media also expressed dissatisfaction, noting that they have only three days left for tests and grading.

It was previously reported that the spring break was initially planned for just one day—March 6. After a wave of public criticism, officials extended it from March 2 to March 7. However, this change affected the date of the Last Bell ceremony, which will now take place on May 29 instead of the 25th.

In 2025, spring break was planned from March 17 to March 23.

Traditionally, the third quarter ended before the Nowruz holiday, and the fourth quarter began on April 1, providing 10 calendar days of vacation.

Interestingly, in Kazakhstan, 11 days of vacation are scheduled for spring 2026, lasting from March 19 to March 29.
