In Karakol, work has begun on the demolition of the Issyk-Kul Regional Musical and Drama Theater named after Kasymaly Zhantöshev.

On its site, a modern multifunctional congress hall is planned to be constructed.

The architectural projects envision the creation of two auditoriums: a large one with 1,000 seats and a small one with 350 seats.

The new facility will be fully equipped for hosting cultural events, international forums, concerts, and theatrical performances at a high level.

During the construction period, the theater troupe will be accommodated at the Ibrai Tumanyan Music College. “We have completed the relocation. The Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy has allocated funds for upgrading the stage at the college. The venue will be expanded and equipped with the necessary technology — lighting and sound. We will work here until the new congress hall is completed and are actively planning tours both within the country and abroad,” noted the theater director Talaibek Turgunov.

The Issyk-Kul Musical and Drama Theater is the only professional theater in the region, founded in 1937. The old building had been in operation since 1983, and in 1985, the theater was named after the Kyrgyz playwright Kasymaly Zhantöshev. Currently, 140 people work at the theater.

Recently, President Sadyr Japarov visited the theater, where he assessed its current condition and emphasized the need for major repairs and modernization.
