According to the city administration, the freed-up territory will be used for the modernization of the boiler house, installation of solar panels, and creation of additional water reservoirs. There are also plans to build a multi-level parking facility and improve the surrounding area.
During the demolition of garages, city authorities always promise residents new modern parking lots, parks, kindergartens, schools, and improvements to road infrastructure.
The editorial team of Kaktus.media decided to remind what specific promises were made to residents in place of the demolished garages and which projects have been implemented.
The first demolition - for the improvement of urban infrastructure
The first major demolition of garages in Bishkek took place in 2019. At that time, the city authorities eliminated the cooperatives "Vasyuki" and "Veterans," which included veterans of the Great Patriotic War. These garages were located on Tugolbaya Ata Street (previously Linear). The demolitions were justified by plans to build a road along the railway tracks as part of the second phase of the "Development of Bishkek's Street and Road Network" project.
At that time, in addition to the garages, other capital structures were also demolished.
The city administration reported that the construction of the road was hindered by a car wash, six private houses, five hotels, a non-residential building, a factory, and three garage cooperatives. However, achieving the demolition of these objects was not easy: the construction documents were obtained legally, and the city administration had to go to court.
Currently, a school for 1,200 students is planned to be built on the site of the demolished garages, funded by the republican budget. The city administration also promises to create a park along Patrice Lumumba Street, but the exact timeline for implementation has not yet been announced.
