According to the prosecutor's office, in 2014, Lau created a hidden team of software developers in Taiwan for his company. This group was engaged in the development, testing, and verification of applications, but without the necessary permission from local regulators. It is claimed that funding and salary payments were made through intermediary companies in Hong Kong.

Additionally, during the investigation, charges were brought against two Taiwanese individuals who worked with Lau. They are also accused of violating laws regulating labor and economic relations between Taiwan and mainland China.

This case unfolds against the backdrop of strict policies by Taiwanese authorities towards Chinese tech companies, which are prohibited from opening offices on the island and hiring local specialists without prior government approval. Sources report that similar schemes using formally independent companies in Hong Kong have already been employed by Chinese firms to circumvent existing restrictions.

The company OnePlus is engaged in smartphone manufacturing, targeting the global market.
