This year, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has announced its plans to respond to crises, featuring 32 key projects focused on different countries and regions.

According to information from the UN news service, the organization aims to assist 22.7 million people, including migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, and local communities. To implement these plans, IOM requires funding of $2.5 billion.

In its statement, IOM noted that in 2026 the organization is focusing on the most pressing needs. Although the requested amount is lower than in previous years, this does not reflect a decrease in needs. Limited resources will be directed towards the most critical crises and the most vulnerable groups, ensuring maximum impact of assistance and saving lives. At the same time, the organization retains the ability to expand assistance as funding becomes available.

As a stark example of current issues, in Sudan, nearly one in three people has been forced to leave their home since the conflict began. This year, IOM plans to raise $170 million to assist 1.3 million Sudanese affected by the war. The organization focuses on supporting local communities and institutions, investing in their capacity to provide quality assistance and ensuring a sustainable, locally-driven response.
