Due to the cancellation of visa runs in Kyrgyzstan, families are falling apart — Dastan Bekeshev

A deputy proposes amendments to migration legislation

During a session of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Dastan Bekeshev raised an important issue that has arisen following the cancellation of visa runs in 2024. He noted that many citizens of Kazakhstan are facing difficulties entering Kyrgyzstan, leading to serious family conflicts.

According to him, there are currently cases where families are separated. For example, if a wife is a citizen of Kazakhstan, she cannot visit her husband in Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakh children also cannot enter the country. Students are facing similar difficulties, experiencing challenges crossing the border to continue their education.

In 2024, a law came into effect in Kyrgyzstan that abolished visa runs — a practice allowing foreigners to leave and immediately return to extend their stay. Now entry into the country is only possible within strictly established timeframes, without the possibility of "resetting" days, which has led to numerous restrictions for various categories of citizens.

“I understand that there are similar legislative norms in Kazakhstan, but we must consider the human aspect. We cannot allow laws to destroy families,” Bekeshev noted.

In this regard, the deputy proposed to return to the discussion of migration legislation and make the necessary amendments to mitigate the consequences of the cancellation of visa runs.
