At the meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on International Affairs, held on January 26, a deputy raised the issue of the lack of schools in the capital and inquired when this problem would be resolved.

As part of the ratification of the loan agreement with the Saudi Fund, which the committee approved, it is planned to allocate $50 million for the construction of five new educational institutions and seven additional buildings in Bishkek, as well as two schools in the Chui region. This information was announced by the Deputy Minister of Construction, Architecture, and Housing and Communal Services, Samat Janteliyev.

In his speech, he noted that most schools in the capital are experiencing significant overload. For example, in the Sverdlovsk district, there are 35 municipal schools designed for 29,732 students, while in reality, 66,747 children are studying there. According to the Ministry of Construction, an additional 15 schools with 11,000 places need to be built in this area.

The deputy asked, "When will the problem of the lack of schools in Bishkek be finally resolved, given that your statistics confirm this?"

In response, Janteliyev stated that the government continues to work on the construction of new educational institutions. This year, the initial construction of 20 schools is planned, and project work is currently underway while land plots are being selected. Construction work may begin as early as this year.

The deputy then clarified the criteria for selecting areas for new construction, as no active measures are taking place in areas with the most acute shortage of schools.

He cited the example of the new development "Ak-Zhar," where 15,000 people live. Children from this area are forced to travel to the city for their education. In the official response from the city administration, it was indicated that a school for 600 students has supposedly been built in the "Ak-Bata" area, but this raises doubts. "In reality, there are about 1,500 children living in 'Ak-Bata,' and in the nearby new developments 'Nurkhozo,' 'Ak-Tilek,' and 'Ak-Zhar,' there are another approximately 3,000. These areas lack medical points, schools, and proper roads. Bishkek city administration, what are you doing?" the deputy emphasized.

He also urged the Ministry of Construction to analyze the situation and include these new developments in the title list for 2026. "If they think that bureaucracy and reports will help hide the problem, they are deeply mistaken. This issue concerns not only the Ministry of Construction but also the Bishkek city administration and the akimat. If the situation does not change, I will raise this issue at the presidential level," the deputy concluded his speech.
