In Brussels, a meeting of the foreign ministers of the European Union countries took place, but they could not reach a consensus either on the new package of sanctions against Russia or on providing military credit to Ukraine. The reason for this was Hungary's position, which insists on the resumption of Russian oil supplies through the Druzhba pipeline.

Slovakia also expressed dissatisfaction with the situation regarding the oil pipeline and suspended emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine, stating that no further assistance should be expected from it.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico emphasized on February 23 that if Ukraine requests help to stabilize its energy network, such support will be impossible, as Kyiv has not resumed oil supplies from Russia.

The European Union was only able to extend the existing sanctions from 2022 for one more year.

Head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, stated that Brussels plans to ban entry to Europe for all Russian military personnel involved in the conflict in Ukraine, and the number of Russia's mission to the EU will be reduced to 40 people.

According to her, the ongoing resistance from Hungary showed that a consensus could not be reached at the EU foreign ministers' meeting.
