A bill has been introduced in Russia that proposes a ban on wearing clothing that covers the face. This initiative was announced by Deputy Mikhail Matveev.

Matveev noted that in developing the document, he tried to take into account all comments to avoid affecting everyday clothing, such as scarves and caps, and to prevent disputes about fashion in different countries. "We aim to avoid conflicts over religious clothing," he added.

The deputy emphasized that the bill is not aimed against believers, but is dedicated to issues of ensuring security in the country.

According to the bill, fines of up to 30,000 rubles will be imposed for wearing niqabs and similar clothing. This measure is aimed at combating terrorism and drug crime, but there are exceptions for cases of official activities and adverse weather conditions.

Sergey Obukhov, also a deputy, clarified that the law will not affect the activities of members of the "Russian Community," who use balaclavas during joint patrols with the police.

"This law will not affect regions such as Siberia and the Far East, as it includes provisions for difficult weather conditions and official activities," he explained.

Amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses will include exceptions for cases related to medical indications, labor and official activities, as well as participation in sports or cultural events.
