At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, President Sadyr Japarov spoke about the draft law concerning the reduction of the number of state awards.

Deputy Kamila Talieva raised this issue, noting that many teachers and doctors would like to receive awards personally from the president.

“Now we only have the award ‘Honored’. Previously, there was the award ‘People's Teacher’, which should be restored. Also, the title ‘El akyny’ should not be excluded from the draft law. I ask you to consider these points,” she added.

President Japarov emphasized that the review of the state awards system began back in 2021.

“Previously, awards were often sold for amounts ranging from $5,000 to $10,000, and some could become ‘People's Artists’ after performing just two songs. At the same time, veterans, honored teachers, and doctors received no awards,” he noted.

According to the president, during the reform, many people truly deserving of recognition were awarded, and the number of awardees at one time reached 150–300 people.

The president also reported that there were previously 47 types of state awards in the country.

“We instructed to reduce their number to 20, in order to eliminate formality and increase the value of each award. This project has already been submitted to the Jogorku Kenesh. If the parliament deems it necessary, it can make small changes—either increase or decrease the number of awards. That is your right. I support this draft law in its current form,” the president added.
