At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Dastan Bekeshev expressed concern about the state of the General Prosecutor's Office and called for its "self-cleaning."

In his opinion, for a long time, law enforcement officers have abused their positions.

“We observe that the investigative bodies of the General Prosecutor's Office cooperate with law enforcement. We have facts to confirm this. Prosecutors often issue indictments in collusion with the GKNB. If previously they jointly arrested businessmen, now prosecutors find themselves in the role of those who are arrested,” Bekeshev stated, adding that it is time for the General Prosecutor's Office to review its internal affairs.

The deputy also pointed out the issue of prolonged detention of suspects, who spend years in pre-trial detention awaiting trial.

“People also cannot lift property seizures for many years. This is a gross violation of citizens' rights. We must find solutions to these issues,” he added.

Furthermore, Bekeshev urged prosecutors to actively combat the arbitrariness of officials who demolish or destroy properties without permission and evade responsibility.

General Prosecutor Maksat Asanaliev commented on the situation, noting that the arrests of GKNB employees occur based on appeals from citizens and law enforcement officers.

“If there are grounds, we initiate cases. What you say about businessmen being imprisoned, and now those who imprisoned them being jailed, is not entirely accurate. It is likely that we are talking about national security officers whom we are holding criminally accountable,” he replied.

Regarding the internal cleansing of the General Prosecutor's Office, Asanaliev stated that this work is ongoing. Last year, several employees were held accountable, including under criminal articles. Oversight of the investigation is conducted at an appropriate level. If prosecutors make illegal decisions, their actions are subject to legal assessment. Officials who have committed gross violations are also held accountable, including criminally,” he added.

When asked about detainees who have been in pre-trial detention for over a year, the General Prosecutor responded that such cases occur, and currently, 12 such citizens are in custody.

In response to a question about lifting property seizures, the General Prosecutor reported on incoming complaints.

“Some seizures were imposed by bodies that have already been liquidated. We are conducting a review of such cases and hope to complete this work in the current year,” concluded Maksat Asanaliev.
