Trump added: “Today I will meet with President Zelensky. I am convinced that the time for negotiations has come. If they cannot do this, then they are unreasonable. This applies to both. I do not consider them foolish, but if an agreement is not reached, it will be so,” he emphasized.
At the same time, Trump noted that his intentions do not include insults, but the necessity of reaching an agreement is extremely important due to the high number of casualties. The U.S. President also mentioned that he was “relatively close” to resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
“I believe we really came close to ending the conflict in Ukraine,” he added.
Furthermore, Trump stated that both Russia and Ukraine are interested in a peaceful agreement.
He also reiterated his view that when one side is ready for negotiations, the other is usually not, which exacerbates the situation and creates mutual animosity between the leaders of both countries.
