According to the latest data from the Global Firepower analytical center for 2026, the Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan ranked 109th out of 145 countries, which is four positions lower compared to the previous year. The assessment is based on more than 60 different criteria, including defense budget, troop numbers, level of technical equipment, and logistics.
In contrast to Kyrgyzstan, the other Central Asian countries have shown positive changes in military strength. Uzbekistan has become the leader in the region, rising five positions to 53rd place in the global ranking. Kazakhstan improved its position, ranking 58th, while Tajikistan climbed to 100th place. Turkmenistan is in 78th position. Currently, Kyrgyzstan occupies the last place in the region in terms of military power.
According to experts, Kyrgyzstan's defense budget is about $221.8 million. With an army size of 23,000 servicemen and a mobilization reserve of 300,000 people, an important aspect affecting the final assessments is the condition of the equipment. Analysts estimate the combat readiness of the country's armored and artillery units at an average level of 50 percent.
According to the Global Firepower ranking, the USA, Russia, and China continue to occupy the top positions. Changes in the positions of Central Asian countries in this list reflect their capabilities to modernize their armies and implement new technologies. The decline in Kyrgyzstan's ranking against the backdrop of its neighbors' growth highlights the need for reforms in the country's defense sector.
