At a press conference held on February 6, Zaure Telemisova announced the detention of her husband, a citizen of Kazakhstan, A.Zh., in Kyrgyzstan.

Telemisova, who lives with her husband in Astana and raises five children, stated that her husband is a farmer and livestock breeder, while she works as a teacher for children with special needs.

According to the woman, on August 6, 2025, A.Zh. was detained at the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border at the "Ak-Zhol—Automobile" checkpoint, where he had arrived with friends for a vacation at Issyk-Kul.

“My husband has been in pre-trial detention for six months now, and during this time, we have not been given any explanation for his detention. He is an ordinary citizen of Kazakhstan, has never had problems with the law, and has no criminal record. We do not have a business in Kyrgyzstan, and he is not connected to criminal groups,” emphasized Zaure.

Telemisova also noted that since her husband's arrest, she has repeatedly appealed to the authorities of Kyrgyzstan to clarify the legality of A.Zh.'s detention. She added that similar requests have been made by the Kazakh authorities, but no response has been received, and she has not been able to meet with her husband.

Lawyer Nurlan Toktaliyev reported that his client has been charged under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic ("Knowingly false report of a crime").

“The case materials state that from 2011 to 2022, he allegedly engaged in smuggling through Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan. But could he really have done this alone? It is also claimed that he is a member of a transnational organized crime group, but there is not a word about my client in the 2019 verdict regarding this group,” the lawyer stated.

Participants of the press conference called on the leadership of Kyrgyzstan to pay attention to this case and resolve it fairly.
