Today in Moscow, in a residential building on Volokolamsk Highway, an attack occurred on Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev, who holds the position of First Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia. This was reported by RBC.
An unknown assailant fired several shots at the officer and then fled the scene. The victim was promptly taken to the hospital.
Svetlana Petrenko, the official representative of the Investigative Committee, reported that a criminal case has been initiated on charges of attempted murder and illegal trafficking of weapons. The Prosecutor's Office of Moscow has taken the investigation under special control, and investigators and forensic experts are working at the scene.
General Alekseev has held his position since 2011 and was awarded the title of Hero of Russia in 2017 for his participation in the military operation in Syria. Additionally, he has been honored with the Orders of Alexander Nevsky and "For Merit to the Fatherland" IV class.
