Ilim Manapov emphasizes that tubing is one of the most dangerous winter activities.
“Often, people choose not specialized places for sliding, but spontaneous slopes located near roads, pits, and other obstacles. It is impossible to control tubing,” says the doctor.
The main problem with inflatable sleds is the lack of control and braking. The user cannot regulate speed, change direction, or stop in time. At the same time, tubing accelerates rapidly, and collisions occur suddenly and at high speed.

Due to the lack of control while tubing, patients often suffer serious injuries.
As Manapov reports, doctors are recording cases of head injuries, traumatic brain injuries, limb fractures, spinal injuries, hematomas, and bleeding, as well as in severe cases — skull fractures.
“When a person falls, they usually do not have time to group, and the impact occurs on the most vulnerable parts of the body,” explains the doctor.

If an injury occurs while tubing, it is necessary to prevent the victim's condition from worsening.
The doctor noted that in serious injuries, the victim may lose consciousness. In such cases, one should:
- lay the victim on their side to ensure airway patency;
- provide access to fresh air and cover the victim from the cold;
- if there is severe pain, immobilize the injured limb using improvised materials;
- do not move the victim if there is suspicion of neck or spinal injury.
“Improper transportation can lead to additional damage to blood vessels or nerves. If there is no doctor nearby, it is better to call an ambulance and get advice from specialists. The victim should only be transported by medical personnel or emergency services,” emphasizes Manapov.
In emergency situations, it is necessary to call an ambulance or contact rescuers at number 112.
Particular Danger of Children Tubing
Doctors express particular concern about children and teenagers tubing without adult supervision.
Children often choose steep and slippery slopes, not always adequately assessing their abilities. At the same time, their musculoskeletal system is not yet fully developed, and the consequences of injuries can be especially serious.

Experts recommend completely avoiding tubing if:
- the slope is poorly visible;
- there is a strong ice layer;
- there are many people on the slope;
- tubing occurs near roads, trees, poles, and stairs.
Medical professionals support active winter recreation but strongly recommend choosing organized sports.
“Outdoor activities in winter are indeed beneficial, but they should be planned in advance. We, doctors, have always expressed caution regarding tubing and continue to adhere to this position. There are safe types of winter sports activities, such as skiing, snowboarding, and ice skating, which are conducted under the supervision of qualified instructors. They teach clients the rules of sliding and safety techniques. Unauthorized tubing on inflatable sleds and other improvised means is extremely dangerous and can lead to serious injuries. Therefore, it is important to choose a recreation area in advance and prefer safe sports,” summarizes Ilim Manapov.
