In Mexico, riots began after the assassination of one of the main drug barons
The recent assassination of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as El Mencho and the head of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, has led to mass riots in Mexico. The country's Ministry of National Defense confirmed this information.

During an operation in the state of Jalisco, four cartel members were killed. El Mencho and three of his accomplices sustained serious injuries and died before they could be taken to the hospital.

Additionally, two suspects linked to the cartel have been arrested, and weapons have been seized, including systems capable of downing aircraft and destroying armored vehicles.

In light of these events, riots have erupted in several areas: protesters are blocking roads and setting vehicles on fire. The governor of Jalisco declared a "red" level of danger and urged people to stay home.

President Claudia Sheinbaum noted that following the elimination of El Mencho, there is active coordination of actions among government agencies across all regions. She expressed gratitude to the military for their work.

The U.S. assessed the assassination of El Mencho as a "significant event" for Mexico and Latin America. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau congratulated Mexican security forces on their successful operation against one of the most brutal drug barons.

The CJGN drug cartel has intensified its activities, organizing attacks and arson across the state of Jalisco and in other regions, targeting stores, pharmacies, and government institutions. There have also been reports of car thefts and road blockages.

Due to these actions, traffic has come to a halt in some parts of Mexico. For example, the bus station in Gustavo A. Madero has suspended bus departures to the west due to road blockages.

The authorities in Jalisco decided to cancel classes in schools for today. The administration of the resort city of Puerto Vallarta urged local residents and tourists to stay in their homes, avoiding unnecessary travel. The University of Guadalajara also suspended its activities and recommended that residents stay home.

The Mexican Football League suspended all matches at the Corregidora Stadium due to security concerns. Women's league games have also been canceled.

Air Canada has suspended its operations at Puerto Vallarta airport, where attacks and blockages occurred on beaches and main roads following the news of El Mencho's death.
