At the recent tournament in Tirana, the Kyrgyzstan national team in freestyle wrestling took 7th place in the team standings.
The competitions, held on February 25 and 26, gathered 29 national teams, ensuring a high level of competition in each weight category. During these two days, 10 sets of medals were contested.
Team achievements and scoring results
Kyrgyzstan was represented by 10 wrestlers, who ultimately won three medals: one gold, one silver, and one bronze, accumulating 55 points in the team standings.
The greatest success for the Kyrgyz wrestlers was achieved in the weight category up to 70 kg. Ernazar Akmataliev performed excellently throughout the tournament and became the gold medalist. The bronze medal in the same category was won by Zalkarbek Tabaldiev, which also added points to the team.
It is important to note that according to the tournament regulations, only the points of one athlete from each country in each weight category are counted towards the team standings. This means that Kyrgyzstan could not gain an additional 15 points for Tabaldiev's bronze medal, which affected their final position in the team standings.
The role of the tournament for athletes
Ranking tournaments play a crucial role in the international calendar and influence the formation of the world ranking of wrestlers. The points earned are key in seeding athletes at world championships and other major competitions of the season.
Seventh place among 29 teams demonstrates the competitiveness of Kyrgyz wrestlers on the international stage and creates positive expectations for successful performances in future tournaments.
