According to information provided by DW, this statement was made by the speaker of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, on Sunday, February 1. He referred to a law passed in 2019 and clarified that after the EU's decision, "the armies of European countries are now considered terrorist groups."

Ghalibaf also noted that Europe’s actions, in his opinion, are aimed at pleasing the United States. During the session of the Majlis, some Iranian deputies appeared in IRGC military uniforms and shouted slogans inciting hatred against the US and Israel.

It is worth recalling that on Thursday, the European Union decided to include the IRGC on the list of terrorist organizations, justifying this by the harsh suppression of protests in Iran. However, officials in Brussels emphasized the symbolic nature of this step, as serious sanctions against Tehran are already in place. The discussion about the possibility of placing the IRGC on the EU's "blacklist" had been ongoing for several years.

The US first designated the IRGC as a terrorist organization in 2019 under President Donald Trump. In response, the Iranian parliament then passed a law on reciprocal measures in case of similar decisions by other states.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is an elite military formation of Iran and, according to experts, has influence that significantly exceeds that of the regular army. Over the past few decades, the IRGC has strengthened its positions in both military and economic spheres, gaining stakes in various sectors of business, including hospitality, construction, transportation, and aviation.
