According to Rospotrebnadzor, a woman with a confirmed diagnosis returned to Moscow after a vacation in the Seychelles. This information was reported by the TASS agency.
After arriving in the country, she was hospitalized, and tests confirmed the presence of the chikungunya virus.
As explained by Rospotrebnadzor, the likelihood of transmitting the infection within Russia is extremely low, as the disease is not transmitted from person to person, but through bites from infected mosquitoes.
Chikungunya fever is prevalent in endemic areas, including countries in Africa south of the Sahara, Central and South America, Southeast Asia, the Western Pacific region, the Arabian Peninsula, and the Indian subcontinent. Travelers planning trips to these regions are advised to use repellents, wear long-sleeved clothing and pants, and install mosquito nets and bed canopies.
