A working group presented a report to the Cabinet of Ministers on the progress of the construction of the plant, which will be engaged in the smelting and refining of copper concentrate. This project is being implemented as part of the development program for the industrial and technological complex initiated by the state mining corporation "Erdenet".
Gradually, information about the project was presented to 55 companies from more than 20 countries, which are recognized global leaders in the field of copper and metallurgy. Of these, 13 companies from seven countries expressed interest in investment and cooperation on this project. After evaluating the experience of implementing similar projects, as well as technical and financial proposals, four legal entities from two countries were selected for the next stage of selection, according to a statement from the government’s Public Relations and Media Department.
The companies that made it to the finals include Chinese companies NFC and Jiangxi Copper, a consortium that includes Liantou New Energy Technology, China ENFI Engineering Corporation, and Shanxi Northern Copper Industry, as well as the Swiss company Glencore International AG.
At a meeting held on February 25, 2026, the Cabinet of Ministers instructed the working group to prepare documents for selecting contractors, which will be sent to the participants who passed the preliminary selection, as well as to evaluate their proposals and organize the final selection. Byambatsogt Sandagu, head of the Cabinet of Ministers' Secretariat, was given the corresponding assignment.
