Richard Blumenthal, a Democratic senator, announced the likely start of a ground operation by the American armed forces in Iran following a closed meeting with lawmakers and administration members.

At the closed Senate session, in which Blumenthal participated as a member of the Armed Services Committee, he expressed his concerns regarding the potential deployment of troops in Iran, adding that he had not received clear answers about the administration's intentions.

The senator stated that he "feels more concerned than ever," emphasizing the lack of clear information about the priorities and objectives of this operation.

Blumenthal also raised questions about the ultimate goals of the possible operation: whether it aims to destroy Iran's nuclear capabilities, eliminate missile infrastructure, change the regime, or combat terrorism. He noted that there is no clarity on these issues.

Additionally, the senator criticized the high level of secrecy, urging the U.S. administration to provide the public with more information rather than limiting itself to closed briefings for lawmakers.

It is worth noting that on February 28, the U.S. and Israel launched a large-scale military operation against Iran aimed at preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons. U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to destroy the Iranian navy and defense industry, as well as called on the citizens of Iran to overthrow the current regime.

On the night of March 1, Iran reported the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

According to media reports, strikes are being carried out not only on military targets but also on civilian infrastructure both in Iran and in other countries in the region. In response, Tehran is attacking Israeli territories and American bases in the Middle East.
