
Seema Malhotra, the UK Minister for the Indo-Pacific, will visit Mongolia from March 23 to 25 to participate in a political roundtable organized between the UK and Mongolia. This meeting will be led by Seema Malhotra and Mongolian Deputy Foreign Minister Amartuvshin Gombosuren. According to MiddleAsianNews, this event promises to be an important step in strengthening bilateral relations.
The agenda of the roundtable includes issues related to bilateral relations, economic cooperation, trade, investments, and the geopolitical situation, as well as determining directions for further work.
During her visit, Minister Seema Malhotra intends to familiarize herself with the Oyu Tolgoi mine and discuss cooperation on the metro construction project in Ulaanbaatar. Meetings are also planned with alumni of the UK government’s Chevening scholarship program, representatives of civil society organizations, and women holding key positions in politics and business.
The UK is actively engaged in enhancing the qualifications of English language teachers in Mongolia. As part of this project, around 740 educators from remote aimags have already been trained, reaching over 140,000 students. Seema Malhotra will meet with the teachers and students involved in the project, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Education and UNICEF who are participating in its implementation.
Speaking about her visit, Seema Malhotra noted: “Mongolia is an important democratic ally for the UK. Sixty years ago, we became the first Western country to establish diplomatic relations with Mongolia, and I am pleased to be here to discuss how we can strengthen our partnership and build a safer and more prosperous future for both countries. We have achieved many successes, including enabling English language teachers to reach over 147,000 students in Mongolia and collaborating on the implementation of advanced technologies and engineering solutions in projects such as the first metro in Ulaanbaatar.”
Seema Malhotra is a British politician of Indian descent and a member of the Cooperative Party, elected to Parliament from the Labour Party. She represents the Feltham and Heston constituency and serves as the Shadow Minister for the Treasury in Jeremy Corbyn's shadow cabinet.
Seema Malhotra was born on August 7, 1972, in London. She graduated from the University of Warwick and then obtained a master's degree in business and information studies from Aston University. In her career, she has worked as a consultant for companies such as Accenture and PricewaterhouseCoopers. She is the founder and head of the Fabian Women’s Network and previously served as chair of the youth organization of the Fabian Society — the Young Fabians.
