As a result of a failure affecting central radio frequency systems in air traffic management in Athens and Macedonia, the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) was forced to issue an urgent directive for all flights within the Athens flight information zone.
Technical malfunctions reduced the system's capacity, leading to significant delays and cancellations of departures from Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport, as well as from various regional airports. Incoming flights are being redirected to other airports outside Greek airspace due to the ongoing crisis.
Serious disruptions to flight schedules are also reported at airports in Cyprus.
