According to information provided by CNN, the primary reason for the mass protests was the killing of 37-year-old Rena Good, which occurred on January 7 in Minneapolis. It is reported that an ICE officer shot the woman, who was unarmed. The next day in Portland, a border patrol officer opened fire on a vehicle, resulting in injuries to a man and a woman.

Protests began in Minneapolis the day after the tragedy. According to CNN, on January 10, tens of thousands of people participated in the events. Mass demonstrations also spread to New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Washington, Austin, Boston, and other major cities.

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen characterized the actions of the ICE officer as justified. This statement provoked a sharp reaction from Illinois Representative Robin Kelly, who announced her intention to initiate impeachment proceedings against the secretary and prepare three lawsuits against her.

President Trump claims that Rena Good was shot after she "intentionally and cruelly" ran over a migration officer. However, there is currently no confirmation of this version of events. According to media reports, a surveillance video released by the Department of Justice shows that the ICE officer began shooting when the woman's vehicle was attempting to leave the scene.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey expressed dissatisfaction with the actions of the immigration service, urging ICE to "get the hell out."

He told reporters: "ICE officers are trying to present this as an act of self-defense. Having reviewed the video, I want to say that this is complete nonsense."
