According to data provided by CBS, the victim was 37-year-old Rene Nicole Good, a local poet and U.S. citizen.

Incident Circumstances

The incident occurred during a protest against the actions of ICE related to immigration law enforcement. The Department of Homeland Security characterized Good's actions as an attempt at "domestic terrorism," while the actions of the ICE officer were deemed self-defense.

President Donald Trump, commenting on the situation, stated that the woman "deliberately and aggressively" drove at the ICE officer, adding that it was surprising that he survived, but is currently in the hospital.

However, in a video recorded by a witness, there is no indication that Good attempted to run anyone over. The video shows one ICE officer approaching the vehicle, while another, standing in front of it, jumps aside and opens fire.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey sharply criticized the Trump administration's statement regarding the intentional hit-and-run, and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz also rejected the federal authorities' version of events.

"Don't believe this propaganda machine. We will ensure a full and fair investigation," Walz stated.

Many Democrats, including former Vice President Kamala Harris and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, also spoke out against the official version of events, with Harris calling it "gaslighting."

Rene Good's Personal Life

According to Rene Good's mother, Donna Genger, her daughter did not participate in protests against the deportation of immigrants. Good's ex-husband reported that she had taken her 6-year-old son to school that day and was returning home with her partner.

Witnesses told local media that after the shooting, a man covered in blood ran out of the vehicle. Rene Good left behind three children, two of whom are teenagers from her first marriage, and her youngest son, according to his grandfather, became an orphan after his father's death in 2023.

Good graduated from a university in Virginia, where she studied literature, and referred to herself on social media as a "poet, writer, wife, and mother."

According to information from the Department of Homeland Security, there are injured ICE personnel who are reportedly "fully recovering." U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, who arrived in Minneapolis, stated that the ICE officers were returning to the office after an operation when one of their vehicles got stuck in the snow, and a large number of protesters gathered around them.

According to Noem, Rene Good directed her vehicle at the ICE officers with the intent to harm them. The Secretary also added that one of the agents was struck and had a similar incident in the past. She described the officer who opened fire as "experienced" and acting in self-defense.

The investigation into this case will be conducted by the FBI, and ICE operations will continue.

Governor Walz stated that the actions of the Trump administration regarding immigrants create an atmosphere of fear, adding that the state does not need federal assistance.

Protests and Actions

Following Rene Good's death, mass protests against the actions of the immigration service began in Minneapolis and other cities in Minnesota. According to the local CBS affiliate, ICE officers used pepper spray against the protesters.

Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets with signs reading "ICE, out of Minneapolis." In another protest organized in Minneapolis, participants began loudly chanting "Shame!" and "Resign!", leading to clashes with ICE personnel, who again used pepper spray.
