A court in the United Arab Emirates has issued a verdict in a case involving a mass brawl that involved citizens of Uzbekistan. As a result of the judicial proceedings, eight individuals were sentenced to life imprisonment, while one received a 25-year sentence. This was reported by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Akhror Burkhanov.

According to the statement, Uzbek authorities and diplomats are currently working to fully investigate the circumstances of the case and protect the rights of their citizens.

The incident occurred in April 2025 at a gas station in Dubai. According to local law enforcement, two citizens of Uzbekistan died during the conflict: one succumbed to stab wounds at the scene, while the other fell into a coma and later died in the hospital.

The Dubai prosecution later clarified that the conflict arose between two familiar groups and was, according to preliminary data, the result of a long-standing personal dispute. The participants in the brawl were apprehended thanks to video recordings from surveillance cameras and witness testimonies, after which they were arrested in a hotel in another emirate. The case was forwarded to the prosecution for further investigation.

On April 25 of last year, Uzbek diplomats held a meeting with the leadership of the Dubai Criminal Investigation Department, during which information was shared about the detention of 15 citizens of Uzbekistan, while investigative actions were ongoing.

Additionally, UAE authorities expressed concerns that the growing number of offenses involving Uzbeks abroad could negatively impact the visa-free regime currently in place between the two countries.
