In response to cases of Nipah virus infection reported in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal, Thai authorities have intensified health control measures. This was reported by NBT World.

Acting Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul noted that the government is taking necessary steps to monitor potential cases of the disease. "As of today, no Nipah virus infections have been detected in Thailand," he added.

The Department of Disease Control and Prevention of the kingdom had previously announced the introduction of a heightened alert mode, which includes a series of preventive measures to prevent the spread of the virus. Epidemiologists recommend thoroughly washing hands after contact with animals, particularly bats, and avoiding the consumption of fruits that have fallen to the ground if they show signs of bites. Experts emphasize that Nipah is not transmitted through airborne droplets like COVID-19; the virus can be transmitted from person to person through saliva or blood.

Medical checks for passengers arriving from India have been intensified at Phuket International Airport. The airport is actively cooperating with medical institutions in Phuket and Phang Nga province to determine whether Indian tourists have sought medical assistance due to symptoms characteristic of the Nipah virus. Early signs of infection may resemble those of the flu.
