At the meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on Agricultural Policy and Ecology on February 2, the issue of smog and its impact on public health was discussed.

Alisher Kozyuev, a deputy, asked representatives of the Ministry of Health whether there is currently any virus or if the effects of air pollution are impacting the health of citizens.

The Director of the National Institute of Public Health, Jarkynbek Kasymbekov, replied that a special study on this topic has not been conducted, as it is very difficult to determine the exact causes.

“Diseases and mortality depend on many factors. If we look at global statistics, we can see that air pollution directly affects health. Although there is an overall decrease in mortality and diseases, the number of cases of lung and respiratory diseases, including allergic rhinitis, has increased. This is particularly noted among children, where the rate of this disease has risen by 2.5 times,” he noted.
