The Jogorku Kenesh approved in the second reading a $30 million OPEC loan for sustainable development

- At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh today, January 29, deputies reviewed and adopted in the second reading the draft law "On the Ratification of the Loan Agreement 'First Program for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth' between the Kyrgyz Republic and the OPEC Fund for International Development, signed on September 22, 2025, in Bishkek.

The agreement implies the provision of budget support by the OPEC Fund for International Development to promote the socio-economic development of Kyrgyzstan. The main areas of funding include ensuring sustainable and equitable energy supply, improving social services, and enhancing climate resilience. There is also an emphasis on strengthening financial stability and improving the business climate in the country. The total amount of funding will be 30 million dollars, with a loan term of 20 years, of which 5 years are designated as a grace period, at an interest rate of 1.25%.
