The Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic announced plans to provide drinking water to 425,000 people in the Osh, Chui, and Issyk-Kul regions. This information was presented at a meeting of the committee dealing with agricultural policy and environmental protection during the discussion of the draft Law on the ratification of a loan agreement with the OPEC Fund, signed on September 23, 2025, in Bishkek.

First Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry Zhanibek Kerimaliev reported that according to the program "Universal Access to Water Supply and Sanitation (Phase 1)," it is planned to improve access to safe drinking water and sanitation in 126 villages.

"The total amount of funding will be 200 million dollars, of which 180 million has already been approved by the deputies of the previous convocation. The remaining 20 million still needs to be approved. As soon as the entire amount is approved, we will start the work," he noted.

The OPEC Fund has provided 20 million dollars in the form of a loan for a period of 20 years for the implementation of this program.

The main areas of the program include:

— Investment in water supply (140 million dollars). These funds will be directed towards the construction and modernization of water supply systems in 126 villages of the Chui, Issyk-Kul, and Osh regions, as well as the implementation of energy-efficient pumping systems, solar energy, and gravity solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

— Development of sanitation (29 million dollars). These funds will be used to modernize toilets in vulnerable households and public institutions (schools, kindergartens, hospitals), ensuring accessibility for people with disabilities in all 126 target settlements.

Additionally, the program includes other components.
