8.3 million euros will be allocated for the renovation of wastewater treatment facilities in Osh
Today, the Jogorku Kenesh adopted a bill in its third reading that ratifies agreements on loans and grants between Kyrgyzstan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. These funds will be used to expand the sewage treatment facilities in Osh.
The total financing will amount to 8.3 million euros: 4 million euros is a loan from the EBRD, 3 million euros is a grant from the European Union, and 1.3 million euros is a grant from the Green Climate Fund, also associated with the EBRD.
The loan is issued for 15 years with a grace period of 4 years and an interest rate of 1% per annum, plus Euribor (6 months). The expected duration of the project implementation is 3 years.
It is expected that these funds will be directed towards the complete renovation of the first complex of wastewater treatment facilities, built in 1965 and out of operation since 1978. The project plans to carry out major repairs of buildings and install new equipment, including screens, sand traps, sedimentation tanks, aeration tanks, pump-blower stations, and contact tanks.
The implementation of this project is expected to significantly improve the efficiency of wastewater treatment, connect new residential areas and social facilities, as well as enhance sanitary conditions in Osh. The bill was unanimously adopted by the parliament in its third reading.
