The authorities of Bishkek clarified the situation regarding the hot water supply shutdown, which will begin on April 1 and last until May 10, 2026, in an interview with Kaktus.media.

The municipality stated that the shutdowns are due to the necessity of preventive and repair work. Additionally, the city administration emphasized that the previous deadlines for the hot water shutdown were made possible due to several reasons.

According to the Municipal Enterprise "Bishkekteploset," about 68.6% of the heating networks have reached their normative service life and require urgent replacement. The high degree of wear and tear on the infrastructure leads to an increase in the number of damages to the pipelines. For example, in 2002, 237 damages were recorded, and by 2025, this number increased to 426, indicating a more than twofold increase in accidents.

The city administration noted: "To ensure a reliable heating season and quality preparation for the next autumn-winter period, extensive repair and restoration work must be carried out. The main pipelines are particularly complex, and their repair takes more time."

It should also be noted that the duration of hydraulic tests on the networks has increased in recent years: from two days in 2002 to five to seven days in 2024. This is due to the expansion of the tested sections, the necessity to conduct tests in two stages, an increase in the number of switchovers, as well as the identification of a large number of damages during testing and the need for their prompt elimination.

Moreover, the city administration mentioned that the complete shutdown of heating equipment in May-June coincides with the period when the population uses more drinking water. This leads to increased pressure on the cold water supply system, which, in turn, can reduce pressure in the networks and cause interruptions in water supply.

Shifting the hot water shutdown dates to an earlier period will allow for the accumulation of the necessary volumes of water in the water intake facilities and reduce the peak load on the water supply system.

Furthermore, the city administration noted that during the hot water shutdown in May-June, there is a significant increase in electricity consumption. This is related to the active use of electric water heaters and increased load due to the mass activation of air conditioners with the onset of warm weather. As a result, the load on the energy system significantly increases.

In light of the above, this year, as in the previous one, the start of the hot water supply shutdown has been moved to April. The city administration asks residents to understand the temporary inconveniences associated with the hot water shutdown, emphasizing that the ongoing activities are aimed at ensuring the reliability of the system and creating comfortable conditions for the citizens.
