The increase in meat production in the country is due to the growth of the livestock population, particularly pigs.
A comparative analysis of livestock numbers at the end of 2022 and 2023 shows the following data: horses — 542.5 thousand (+1.6%); cattle — 1 million 802.3 thousand (+1.1%); sheep and goats — 6 million 216.2 thousand (+0.2%).
Birds, sheep, goats, and cows make up the largest share of the livestock sector.
In terms of cattle numbers, the leading region is the Osh region — 404 thousand (22%), followed by the Jalal-Abad region with 375.2 thousand (20%) and the Chui region — 314 thousand (17.4%).
The smallest number of cattle is registered in the Talas region — 69.4 thousand (4%).
In 2023, there is an increase in the number of pigs raised in state and collective farms.
The majority of pigs in Kyrgyzstan are kept in private peasant and household farms, which accounted for 21 thousand 276 heads out of a total of 29 thousand 676 in 2023.
However, this is 1 thousand 401 pigs less compared to 2022.
At the same time, the number of pigs in state and collective farms increased by 283.5% in 2023, reaching 8 thousand 400 heads, significantly exceeding the 2 thousand 963 heads in 2022.
