At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh on January 28, Deputy Dastan Bekeshev once again raised an important issue regarding the licensing of taxi drivers.

He noted that in three days, on February 1, mandatory licensing is set to come into effect; however, at the moment, only 7,500 out of 70,000 taxi drivers in Bishkek have managed to obtain a license.

“If we do not extend this deadline, the cost of taxi services will significantly increase, leading to a rise in unemployment,” Bekeshev emphasized.

Additionally, he touched on the topic of the closure of private driving schools, noting that although the schools are closed, their assets are not being returned. For example, “DOSAAF” has completely shut down, but other businesses, including sewing workshops, continue to operate in its building. He also pointed out the lengthy duration of driving training, which lasts 10 months, stating that it is too long. “Something needs to be done about the cars with Russian license plates that have been in impound lots for several months. Either an amnesty should be declared, or other measures should be devised. All these issues will negatively impact the business,” the deputy added, suggesting that these problems be addressed in the transport committee.

In response to his remarks, the committee chairman Kubanychbek Kongantiev proposed the creation of a special commission to address these issues.
