According to the discussed initiative, the use of phones during lessons is already prohibited; however, the rules for storing devices are set by each school individually. Deputies propose to create a unified ban for all educational institutions. The first violation may result in a warning, while a repeat offense could lead to a fine exceeding 20,000 tenge. The Ministry of Education noted that these restrictions are aimed at protecting children's health, minimizing distractions, and preventing online bullying. The bill is currently under consideration.
Supporters of the ban believe that the presence of gadgets reduces children's concentration and academic performance. Aysulu Medetbekova, the director of Lyceum No. 28 named after M. Mametova, expressed the opinion that students increasingly resort to using calculators and artificial intelligence instead of independent learning, which negatively affects their health, including worsening eyesight and the onset of headaches. At the same time, parents emphasize the importance of staying connected with children in emergency situations and the necessity of using technology in the educational process, such as QR codes and electronic diaries.
