In the biosphere zone "Issyk-Kul," a winter monitoring of waterfowl and aquatic birds took place, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Ecology on January 27.

This work was organized by the management of the biosphere territory in collaboration with scientists from the Institute of Biology of the National Academy of Sciences and covered both Lake Issyk-Kul and the Orto-Tokoy Reservoir.

Monitoring of the eco-demography of birds and their habitats in this region is conducted regularly—during winter, spring, and autumn. The collected data on the number and distribution of birds help assess the ecological situation of water bodies and the balance of ecosystems, as well as serve as important indicators of changes in the environment.

Experts noted that such counts allow for the study of both wintering and migrating bird species. The Issyk-Kul region is an important link in the migratory routes of Central Asia, which adds special scientific significance to these studies.

The Ministry of Ecology added that the results of the monitoring serve as a scientific basis for the development of management and conservation measures, contributing to the preservation of biodiversity and the sustainable use of the country's natural resources.
