The incident, according to the victim's mother, occurred on October 15, 2025, in the village of Boo-Terek, located in the Bakai-Ata district of the Talas region. The 28-year-old M. T. kyzy, who has been married for six years and has two daughters, became a victim of domestic violence.
On that day, her mother said, the son-in-law came home in a state of intoxication, caused a scene, and beat his wife.
"He threatened to kill her with an axe, and then went outside to find a weapon. When he returned, he doused her with gasoline and started looking for matches. At that moment, my daughter managed to hide her frightened children in another room, but she didn't have time to save herself. When he lit the match, the fire engulfed her. She ran outside and tried to extinguish the flames with water from the tap. Passersby, hearing her cries for help, took her to the hospital," the mother of N. K. recounted.
According to her, the husband's relatives tried to mislead the doctors, claiming that the woman had received burns by accidentally dousing herself with gasoline while lighting the stove.
Currently, the woman and her children are in Bishkek under the care of her mother. The Institute of Ombudsman noted that the victim needs psychological support and further treatment, as she sustained 60% burns to her body. The woman filed a complaint with the Internal Affairs Department of the Lenin District of Bishkek.
According to the Talas region prosecutor's office, the complaint was forwarded to the Bakai-Ata District Internal Affairs Department, where an investigation has already begun.
The Ombudsman urged law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough and objective investigation of this case and hold those responsible accountable.
It is worth noting that on February 5, M. T., born in 1998, approached the Lenin District Internal Affairs Department of Bishkek, stating that on October 15 of last year, her husband D. Zh., born in 1994, beat her without reason and expelled her from their home in the Bakai-Ata district. She indicated that he doused her with gasoline and then set her on fire.
M. T. also noted that at that moment she did not report the incident, even though she sustained serious burns. The police confirmed that a fire indeed occurred in the specified house on that day.
