In the Naryn region, in the At-Bashinsky district, girls have their hair braided into plaits from an early age and have "besh kökül" done — a traditional hairstyle consisting of five braids on the temples, starting around the age of 12.

Salkyn Turdumambetova, a local resident, spoke about how the people of this region ascend to the high pastures of Jool Bogoštu and Tuyuk Bogoštu near the village of Taldy-Suu to preserve the ancient Kyrgyz tradition.

According to S. Turdumambetova, hair for women is not only an element of beauty but also a symbol of happiness: "chach bul senin ырысын" (hair is your happiness). Therefore, girls must take care of their hairstyle. She noted that there is an invisible connection between a woman's hair and her soul — if she feels good and happy, her hair shines as well.

She also added that poor health or worries can immediately reflect on the appearance of hair — it loses its shine and well-groomed look.

Mothers living in the high pastures use ayran to wash their daughters' hair, which gives it softness and shine. In their teenage years, girls begin to add herbal infusions to the ayran for better hair care.

Additionally, locals adhere to the tradition of "Kelin din chachyn öruu." The day after the wedding, the newlywed bride has her hair braided. For this ceremony, the mother-in-law invites only women from the family. The bride is brought out from the "koshö" (the curtain separating the young couple's bed) and sits in the center. The mother-in-law selects those who will braid the hair, and during the process, those gathered bless the bride, wishing her happiness in marriage and that she becomes a good "kelin."

Turdumambetova emphasizes that many Kyrgyz traditions in Naryn have been preserved in their "pure form" ("suu koshulbagan"), without the influence of other cultures.
