Cholpon Kulzhanova, residing in the village of Ak-Kochkor in the Jeti-Oguz district of the Issyk-Kul region, is a true mother-heroine. She and her husband are raising seven children: five sons and two daughters. A Turmush correspondent met with Cholpon to learn her story.

Cholpon was born on April 4, 1981, in the Alamidin district. After finishing school, she enrolled in one of the universities in the capital to study biology, fulfilling her long-held dream. In 2004, she completed her studies and got married in 2005. The couple lived in Bishkek for a while before returning to her husband's native village, Ak-Kochkor, where they established their family nest. Currently, their eldest son is 20 years old, and their youngest daughter is only two.

“I grew up in a family with three children. After me, two brothers were born, and I always dreamed of having a sister. It is extremely important for a girl to have a close person with whom she can share her secrets and receive advice. Often, I hesitated to tell my mom about my worries so as not to upset her, so a sister was always a dream. About a year after our wedding, we had our firstborn, followed by two more sons. That’s when I started dreaming of a daughter. And then, six years after the birth of three boys, we had a girl. Remembering my childhood dreams, I thought it would be wonderful to give her a younger sister. So, after two sons, we had another girl, which brought joy to the whole family. My husband also has one sister; the rest are brothers, so we eagerly awaited the arrival of our daughters. I am grateful to God for the opportunity to be a mother-heroine,” Cholpon shares.

The names of the children are: Rasul, Ramis, Ramzan, Rabia, Amir, Alim, and Raziya.

“My eldest son works as a cook, the second is studying at university, and the others are still in school. As a mother, I hope for their proper upbringing, good health, and wish that each of them finds their path in life. As they grow older, my elder sons are becoming more independent, and I dream that they meet good girls and create strong families,” she says.

In 2025, Cholpon was awarded the title of “Mother-Heroine.” “It is a great responsibility and honor. When my name was announced during the award ceremony, I was very excited. But the most important thing for me is the happiness of my children, as that is the highest reward,” she adds.

Cholpon describes her life as dynamic: the laughter and antics of children fill the home with warmth. “I am happy when my children appreciate my efforts. Although I haven’t taught them cooking, they happily say, ‘Mom, this is very tasty, thank you!’ In our large family, the children grow up close-knit: the older ones always help the younger ones and support me, creating a reliable support system for each other,” Cholpon recounts.

In her free time, Cholpon enjoys sewing, making dresses for her daughters and clothes for her sons, paying special attention to the outfits for the girls. Her daughter Rabia, born in 2017, is already showing an interest in handicrafts. “Girls usually love flowers, so Rabia started making them from various materials. I support her hobby by buying the necessary supplies. She made her first flower following a video tutorial from the internet, and now she crafts on her own. Rabia gifts her creations to family members and sells them in a local store, using the proceeds to buy new materials. She studies well and successfully balances her hobbies with her studies,” Cholpon shares.
